The Role of Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi Politics

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has emerged as a transformative force in Delhi's political landscape since its inception in 2012. Founded by Arvind Kejriwal, the party was born out of the anti-corruption movement led by social activist Anna Hazare. AAP has since redefined governance in Delhi, focusing on transparency, accountability, and people-centric policies.

One of AAP's most significant contributions has been its focus on welfare-oriented governance. The party’s flagship initiatives, such as the Mohalla Clinics, have revolutionized healthcare access for the underprivileged. By providing free basic healthcare and medicines, AAP has set a precedent for other states. Similarly, its emphasis on education through revamped government schools and improved teacher training has elevated Delhi's education standards, earning recognition both nationally and internationally.

AAP's policies have also targeted reducing financial burdens on the common citizen. Subsidized electricity and water bills, free public transport for women, and affordable housing projects have been key to its popularity among Delhi's middle and lower-income groups. These policies resonate with its core philosophy of addressing the needs of the "aam aadmi" (common man).

In the political arena, AAP has challenged the dominance of established parties like the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Indian National Congress (INC). Its success in Delhi's assembly elections, particularly the landslide victories in 2015 and 2020, showcases its ability to connect with the electorate. AAP's anti-corruption agenda and transparent governance have played pivotal roles in building its credibility.

However, AAP has also faced criticism for its confrontational stance with the central government and allegations of populism. Despite these challenges, its innovative governance model has reshaped Delhi's politics, making AAP a significant player and a symbol of citizen-focused governance.
